The Mac Admins Foundation is proud to announce the formation of the Mac Admins Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization for the benefit of the Mac Admins community.
The Mac Admins Foundation exists in order to advance the global community of people who manage Apple devices at large and small scales. Their mission is the following:
Fostering the connections among Mac Admins around the globe;
Sharing knowledge and resources for members' ongoing professional growth;
Preserving collected knowledge for the benefit of others;
Making a welcoming and accessible organization to expand the profession;
Providing for the use of community tools (such as the Mac Admins Slack workspace);
Protecting the independence of the community; and
Maintaining affordable access to all community resources, regardless of members' economic status.
The Mac Admins Foundation's primary activity is the operation of a global online community of IT professionals who specialize in Apple hardware and software.
Started in 2015, the Mac Admins community has existed in Slack, a digital communication platform. It has grown to over 42,000 members, with approximately 5,000 active members in any given week. Members use the platform to get support and guidance from peers and experts in the field. In addition to the general discussion feed, there are over 1,000 public channels within the space, which hold breakout conversation space for specific topics and groups, such as specific technical considerations, industrial sectors, geographies, and socio-cultural segments.
While the majority of the posts and discussions concern direct professional considerations for the members, it is also an avenue for learning, news, friendships, hobbies, resource sharing, games, and other social interactions.
The Mac Admins online community is free and openly accessible for community members, and is moderated by a group of 14 administrators. The vast majority of time spent by directors and volunteers, and almost all of the cash budget for Mac Admins Foundation, will be directed towards maintaining and managing this community for the foreseeable future. By maintaining this Slack instance as a free and accessible digital environment, the Mac Admins Foundation ensures delivery on all the elements of the mission.

“We’re so excited to support the Mac Admins Foundation and its mission to foster connection, share knowledge and create an accessible community for those in IT who continuously work to empower their end users with Apple,” said Jeni Asaba, senior manager of community at Jamf. “Jamf looks forward to working with the Mac Admins team to help these organizations succeed with technology that drives collaboration and innovation now and long into the future.”
“Macs are an important part of the small to medium-sized enterprise (SME) tech stack,” said Greg Keller, co-founder and chief strategy officer, JumpCloud. “The pandemic and remote work gave employees more choice in the devices they used to make (remote) work happen, resulting in more Macs in the enterprise. More Macs equates to more IT admins responsible for managing them. JumpCloud has always supported IT admins and the Apple community, and the Mac Admins Foundation supports fantastic resources for IT pros in times of mass Mac adoption. We're excited to partner with the Mac Admins Foundation, as they represent a lot of our values and ideals of community through building connections and becoming 1% better every day.”
“Kandji is proud to support The Mac Admins Foundation. We believe in the mission to empower, support and develop the community of professionals who manage and secure Apple devices.” said Weldon Dodd, SVP of Product Strategy, “We’re excited to see the field grow both in depth and diversity with the guidance and resources of The Mac Admins Foundation.”
“The Mac Admins community is filled with passionate people who care deeply about preserving the magic and wonder of Apple in an increasingly complex and often cynical IT environment. As someone building novel products that explore what is possible when the IT team and end-users work together in good faith, I can think of no better investment than to ensure this community continues to grow and thrive,” said Jason Meller, CEO of Kolide, Inc. “As Apple positions itself as the standard bearer for user privacy, MacAdmins stands to be the place where those values are discussed, standardized, and imbued in IT’s tooling and culture. Thanks to the selfless work of Mac Admins all over the world, using Apple products at work is not just viable, it’s now the default choice for the world’s most innovative companies. Kolide is immensely proud to be both a supporter and a participant in the continuing evolution of this community.”
"For the past seven years, Mac Admins has grown from a tight-knit team of experts to a go-to community with thousands of members focused on bettering the Apple ecosystem," said Alcyr Araujo, founder and CEO at Mosyle. "Their growth has been astounding. The next step of the journey and launch of the MacAdmins Foundation will ensure this go-to community full of Apple resources for insights, problem-solving, and countless tips will continue for years to come."
“I'm excited about the future when it comes to managing Apple devices. The only constant is change. That and knowing that the Mac Admin community is going to be there.” said Marcus Ransom, host of the Mac Admins Podcast, “The Mac Admins Foundation ensures that we can focus on the changes without having to worry about losing this valuable resource.”
“Community is so incredibly important,” said Chad Swarthout, CEO and Founder of Alectrona, “And for us, this community is our go-to for connecting with our peers in the Mac Admins professional space. We're so excited to participate in bringing this dream to life!”
“We have been so lucky to have gotten to watch and participate in the growth of the MacAdmin community for all of these years,” said Charles Edge, CTO of Bootstrappers.mn, “We couldn’t imagine trying to build software, manage devices, or just find some of our long lost friends from conferences without it! We look forward to the opportunity to continue to help the Foundation in whatever ways they’ll let us!”
“HCS Technology Group and our entire team have gleaned so much from the Apple community,” said Craig Cohen, President of HCS Technology Group, “It’s not only our responsibility but our humbled privilege to give back and be part of contributing and shaping the next generation.”
Beyond the Slack-based online community, the Mac Admins Foundation operates a website at macadmins.org, where they publish occasional articles and posts of interest to the professional community.
