Mentorship and the Mac Admins Foundation

The Mac Admins Foundation is very excited to begin its pilot mentorship program. This initiative is a leap forward in our ongoing commitment to nurturing talent and facilitating career advancement within the Mac Admins Community. By pairing more experienced mentors with mentees looking for knowledge, experience, and growth, we can all grow the community together.

How The Pilot Program Works

We invite all members of the community looking to advance their careers and seasoned professionals interested in giving back to the community to join this program. During our pilot program, we will be recruiting both mentors and mentees from the community to participate. On July 1st, 2024, we will open the program for people to register their interest – both in being a mentor, and in being a mentee.

Mentors will fill out an interest form indicating their areas of expertise, their experience, and their commitment to helping one or more members of the community grow in their skills. Mentees will fill out an interest form indicating their desired area of learning and growth. Once we have reached critical mass, we will provide mentees with a list of possible mentors from the community, and selection will be conducted with the help of the MAF Mentorship Committee.

Once assigned, mentors and mentees will conduct a series of sessions together to help understand the desired growth path, help provide learning opportunities and resources, and build a development plan together. Over the pilot period – 3 months – we expect mentors and mentees to meet 30 to 60 minutes per week to discuss progress, learning, and plans for future growth.

At the end of the 3 month period, we will be reassessing the program based on feedback from the initial cohort of mentors and mentees, making adjustments to the program, and we intend to open it to more participants.

Who Can Participate?

We are looking for mentors and mentees who can commit 3-5 hours per month to this program, as well as those who can provide feedback for future growth of the experience for others.

Participants must be willing to provide feedback for the program, fill out a waiver form for the Foundation, and commit to engaging in the program for at least 3 months.

Where To Begin?

Questions?

We will host asynchronous Q&A on the Mac Admins Slack in #maf-mentorship. Please feel free to ask questions there!

Will there be a cap on the number of participants for this pilot?

We will try our best to accommodate all community members who have expressed interest. However, we may need to cap the initial number of participants based on available time and resources. If this happens, we will prepare and stage another phase of matching.
