The Mac Admins Foundation offers profound thanks to Founding Co-Chair Tom Bridge as he steps down from his role on the Mac Admins Foundation Board of Directors.

A multi-faceted technology expert, prolific conference speaker, and charismatic community advocate, Tom joined the Mac Admins Slack in 2015 as user #28 and has worked ceaselessly to support and strengthen the community of Mac Admins throughout his career.

Tom was among the first to respond to the 2021 announcement that SalesForce had purchased Slack; he acted as the driving force in assembling the ad hoc group who would go on to build the Mac Admins Foundation on the pillars of universal access, independence, and community. He then guided the establishment of the formal organization, generation of governing documents, and the formation of its first Board of Directors, providing immense amounts of time and even some of the preliminary financial support needed to bring the organization out of stealth.

Back in the day, Mac Admins kept in touch via a variety of social media and technology tools. Some of us relied on email, some on IRC, some used Twitter – it was common to introduce ourselves in person using names and Twitter handles. Conferences allowed us to meet face-to-face, and to begin professional relationships and personal friendships that would build careers and lives out of the challenges and absurdities of Managing Macs. But conferrences ended, shortening our conversations.

Mac Admins Open Source announces Jamf Pro SDK for Python

The macOS Client Engineering team at Amazon has released a new Python package in partnership with Mac Admins Open Source. The “Jamf Pro SDK for Python” is a library for writing scripts and developing integrations with Jamf Pro’s APIs and webhooks.

This is an alpha release of the project. After a period of community feedback, and any required changes to the SDK’s internals and interfaces, it will enter into beta and then finally a 1.0 release.

The Mac Admins Foundation is proud to announce the addition of four new members of the Board of Directors. After a search process featuring more than 50 applicants, the Board of Directors voted to expand the number of seats available from two to four new seats given the quality of the applicants.

“After interviewing our finalists, we felt that we had too many great interviews to limit ourselves to just two of our finalists,” Co-Chair Tom Bridge said, “and we voted to increase the number of board seats from seven to nine to accommodate all the outstanding finalists we spoke with.”

As Tom mentioned in his post yesterday, Apple announced a new online professional courses and certifications for Apple device support, deployment and management. In the announcement was this fun section:

Apple has also partnered with the Mac Admins Foundation to ensure additional access to the new Apple exams. With underwriting from Apple, the foundation will offer vouchers to applicants with financial need. As a new 501(c)(3) organization, two key tenets of the Mac Admins Foundation are making a welcoming and accessible organization to expand the profession, and maintaining affordable access to all community resources. Apple’s New Training & Exams (and, Announcing the Mac Admins Foundation)

Today, Apple announced a new pair of certification exams for Mac Admins. This is a new version of the standard Apple Certified Support Professional exam, that comes with a self-paced training course, as well as the completely new Apple Certified IT Professional exam, which also comes with a self-paced training course.

I can also say that I’ve taken and passed both exams. They’re serious efforts, and they show a broad range of knowledge that’s required by our professions as Mac Admins. Knowing how deployment works — not just how rote practices work but the theory behind it — is the hallmark of a solid Mac Admin, and there’s more required of Mac Admins every year. I’m excited to see Apple putting effort into this program.
