About the Mac Admins Foundation
The Mac Admins Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that exists to advance the global community of people who manage Apple devices at large and small scales. We do this by fostering connections among Mac Admins around the globe, sharing knowledge and resources for ongoing professional growth, preserving collected knowledge for the benefit of others, and maintaining a welcoming and accessible organization that expands the profession. Our primary activity is the operation of the Mac Admins Slack workspace — a global online community of tens of thousands of IT professionals who specialize in Apple hardware and software — along with growing programs in mentorship, scholarships, events, and community grants.
The Opportunity
The Mac Admins Foundation is seeking at-large members to join its Board of Directors. This is a volunteer leadership position with a three-year term beginning in August 2026.
As an at-large board member, you will help guide the direction of the Foundation alongside the co-chairs, executive team, and your fellow board members. This role is equal parts strategic thinking and hands-on work. You will contribute to the vision for the Foundation’s future while also rolling up your sleeves to move Board driven initiatives forward.
We are looking for people who are engaged members of the Mac Admins community and who want to give back by helping build the infrastructure and programs that support it. Prior board experience is not required. If you bring good judgment, a willingness to learn, and the ability to get things done, we want to hear from you.
What You’ll Do
Board Governance & Meetings Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings. Contribute to discussions on the Foundation’s direction, finances, and programs. Come prepared, share your perspective, and help the board make informed decisions.
Committee Work Serve on one or more working committees (such as mentorship, events, scholarships, finance, or fundraising) and participate in regular standups. Much of the Foundation’s work happens in committees, and board members are expected to be active contributors, not just observers.
Project Execution Take ownership of projects and initiatives, moving them from concept to completion. This means translating ideas discussed at the board level into actionable plans and following through on delivery. The Foundation runs on the work of people who show up and do.
Community Engagement & Representation Represent the Mac Admins Foundation at community events, conferences, and in public-facing interactions. Serve as an ambassador for the Foundation’s mission and values within the broader Mac Admins community.
Fundraising & Sustainability Support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts, which may include sponsor outreach, community campaigns, and donor engagement. You don’t need to be a fundraiser by trade, but willingness to participate in sustaining the organization is important.
Strategic Planning Contribute to the Foundation’s strategic direction, with guidance from the co-chairs and executive team. This involves thinking about where the Foundation should be headed, what programs to invest in, and how to grow sustainably — then helping make it happen.
What We’re Looking For
We evaluate candidates holistically. There are no hard prerequisites — the qualities and experiences below are things we value, and many of them can be developed with mentorship and support from the existing board.
Foundations we value:
- Completion: A track record of following through — you’ve led or managed projects and seen them through to completion, whether in your career, in volunteer work, or in community settings
- Activation: The ability to take a concept or conversation and turn it into actionable work. We discuss a lot of ideas; we need people who can make them real
- Clarity: Comfort working in ambiguity. The Foundation is growing, and not everything is fully defined yet. You should be energized rather than frustrated by that
- Resourcefulness: You look for answers on your own and know when to ask for help
- Decorum: Experience navigating both private and public contexts. Board members sometimes represent the Foundation publicly while also participating in candid internal discussions
Experience that strengthens a candidacy:
- Prior involvement in the Mac Admins community (Slack, conferences, meetups, open-source projects, etc.)
- Experience with project management, process development, or organizational operations
- Interest in technical, workflow, or IT-oriented topics
- Background in leadership, governance, administration, or production work
- Prior nonprofit, volunteer, or board experience
- Public speaking or community education experience
What we can teach:
- Board governance and nonprofit operations
- Strategic planning at an organizational level
- Fundraising and sponsor relations
- Program development and management
If you’re someone who wants to grow into this kind of leadership and is willing to put in the work to get there, we encourage you to apply. We are committed to mentoring new board members into the role.
